Coffee, Chaos, and Creativity: A Peek into My Writing Life
Writing while balancing a full-time job, daily life, and an art hobby isn’t always glamorous — but it’s always worth it.

A Day in My Creative Life
Morning: Coffee comes first. Always. I take ten minutes to skim what I wrote the day before, making small tweaks before heading to work.
Lunch Break: This is prime “sticky note” time. I jot down snippets of dialogue, plot twists, or descriptions that pop into my head.
Evening: Writing sprints. I set a timer for 25 minutes, block out distractions, and see how much I can get down before the buzzer rings.

My Voice Board Trick: When writing multiple characters, I keep a “voice board” — a quick reference list of their quirks, favorite words, and personality traits. It helps each voice feel unique and keeps me from accidentally blending them together.
The Messy Middle: Not every writing day is smooth. Sometimes my characters refuse to cooperate, or I realize a plot thread doesn’t work. I’ve learned to embrace the messy middle because it often leads to the best surprises.
Why I Keep Going: Even on the hard days, writing is my outlet. It’s where I process emotions, explore ideas, and create something lasting. And every time I hear from a reader who connected with a story, it’s fuel to keep going.
Until next time,— Elaine
